“YOU HAVE AN EXCELLENT EXAMPLE IN    ALLAH’S MESSENGER”

His Humility and Simplicity

Adi Ibn Hatem was the leader in his tribe and was Christian.  He was the son of Hatem El-Taee who was very well known before Islam for his courage and generosity.  When war between the Muslims and Adi’s tribe took place, he ran away with his family leaving his sister who was caught by the Muslims behind. 

Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him let Adi’s sister go free without ransom honouring her father.  He commanded Ali Ibn Abi Taleb to give her what she needs for the journey and to place her with a trustworthy caravan going to where her brother went.  When she arrived to her brother Adi, she advised him to meet Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him and to follow him.

Adi travelled to Madinah and went to Allah’s messenger mosque where he found him sitting with his companion.  He did not site on a special seat and did not wear special cloths.  When Adi introduced himself Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him got up and walked with him, without guards or procession.

On the way, an old woman stopped Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him to ask him about some things.  He stood with her and answered her questions patiently, and did not go until she walked away.

He and Adi walked to Allah’s messenger’s house on their own.  When they went in, the only furniture there was a leather cushion stuffed with loaf. Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him gave it to Adi to site on and he sate on the floor.

Such was his humility and simplicity prayer and peace upon him with all, Muslims and non-Muslims.  Even when Islam spread all over the Arabian Peninsula and he became the head of a large country as well as being Allah’s messenger, this did not change him and he remained humble and simple.

This is not surprising when Allah the Highest described His righteous slaves to “WALK EASY ON EARTH”.  This expression means humility and simplicity of Allah’s good slaves although their status before him is great.  However this status is also because of this noble character.

Humility and Simplicity are of the character of Allah’s messenger prayer and peace upon him which Allah the Highest wants us to take as an example.  Indeed if our messenger prayer and peace upon him is humble and simple, we ought to be humble and simple with every one and in all situations.
